Creating a Healthy, Safe, and Inclusive Culture

Pilot Project - Training for Occupational Health and Safety Committees

As part of a pilot project, the JLP co-developed an engaging two-day in-person workshop that gave participants the opportunity to create a healthy, safe, and inclusive culture within the core federal public service.

Co-designed and co-facilitated by union and employer representatives, the workshop used a participatory style of learning. Participants gained knowledge, tools, and resources to make a positive contribution to their departmental Occupational Health and Safety Committees.

Twenty-seven workshops were offered across the country from September 27 to December 1, 2022. Participant evaluations confirm this was a successful pilot initiative that met the learning needs of OHS Committees members. The vast majority of participants confirmed that the training inspired them to get involved in creating a healthy, safe and inclusive culture in the workplace. At the end of the training, participants affirmed they are better equipped and more confident to contribute to OHS Committee, and that they will recommend the training to their colleagues on the OHS Committee.

The PSAC and TBS are currently in discussion at the bargaining table to establish a sustainable program. When the workshops are offered again, the JLP will announce it to the federal government OHS community.
